Bespoke Animal Portraiture
Studio Linnaeus is a Brooklyn-based art studio specializing in bespoke animal portraiture — from intimate pet portraits (including memorial pet portraits) to dramatic wildlife studies — all realized as museum-quality archival prints. Led by an artist with a three-decade career in contemporary art, the studio reinterprets art-historical traditions through a distinctly modern lens.
Our Approach to Pet Portraiture
At Studio Linnaeus, every custom pet portrait is conceived as an original artwork — client photographs are used solely as reference, never traced or replicated. Artworks take shape through a considered interplay of digital and manual processes — if AI is used, it is only to generate raw material that remains inert until shaped by the artist. Every personalized pet portrait is informed by a deep understanding of art history and a fluency in the principles that have guided the creation of masterpieces in animal portraiture across centuries — anatomy, color, composition, light, and symbolism — all in service of capturing not only likeness, but the presence and spirit of each animal.
Studio Linnaeus welcomes commissions for all animals, including custom cat portraits, custom dog portraits, custom rabbit portraits, custom bird portraits, and custom horse portraits — as well as portraits of any other beloved pet. Every commission includes two bespoke pet portrait designs to choose from.
Museum‑Quality Materials
The selected pet portrait is meticulously color-calibrated for tonal accuracy and dynamic range, then printed on the finest 300gsm archival cotton papers from Hahnemühle, Canson, or Moab. Standard commissions are presented in signature mid-century modern frames, hand-crafted from premium American walnut using nail-free joinery. Custom-sized prints can be shipped directly to your local framer. Each work is completed with a custom label on the verso bearing your and your pet’s details, and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. We ship pet portraits worldwide.
Large-Scale Commissions
For architects, interior designers, and residential clients seeking larger-scale works, these highly detailed fine art pet portraits and animal studies can be fully customized and produced on a variety of materials at dimensions up to 80 × 120 inches, including wallpaper.
Hand-Painted Legacy Commissions
For collectors seeking a hand-painted pet portrait rather than our museum-quality archival prints, Studio Linnaeus accepts a limited number of luxury hand-rendered pet portrait commissions each year. These oil paintings and pencil drawings are labor-intensive works of art, beginning at $5,000, with a current waitlist of approximately six months.
